Welcome to the SCFD campaign website!

The Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) is a voter-approved special district in the seven- county Denver metro area that provides a stable source of supplemental funding to more than 300 scientific and cultural organizations across the metro area. The District collects a tenth of a cent 0.1% sales tax (or one penny on every $10 purchase) – providing approximately $35 million dollars each year to area cultural attractions both small and large.

Voters first approved the SCFD in 1988. Since then it has provided tremendous benefits to our citizens, including:

  • Accessibility - SCFD increases access to the region's cultural organizations through outreach to underserved residents; provides FREE educational and cultural experiences to more than 2 million school children every year; keeps admission prices low; and provides more than 100 free days a year at the major cultural institutions.

  • Local & regional attractions - More than 9 million people visit SCFD- funded organizations each year. Two-thirds of metro area visitors to the Zoo, Art Museum, Nature and Science Museum and Botanic Gardens (the four largest regional facilities) come from the suburbs. Every metro county receives funding for its small to mid-size cultural organizations.

  • Economic impact - SCFD-funded organizations generate more than $1 billion a year in economic impact and provide more than 7,000 jobs to Colorado residents.

Vote YES this November to renew the SCFD and continue to make the metro area a great place to live, work and play.
